Homemade juices are an easy way to boost your nutrient intake and stay hydrated, but a bad juicer can ruin the experience. The best juicers have all the features you need to make homemade juice a staple on the menu and enjoy its many benefits.
Juicers generally fall into two categories: chewing juicers and centrifugal juicers. Centrifugal juicers use blades to crush and squeeze foods to extract juice. Chewing juicers use an auger to extract juice from fruits and vegetables. A juicer may also be capable of making nut butter or nut milk, frozen desserts, or even pasta and bread sticks. To find the right juicer, it’s important to understand the various features and capabilities available, as well as your individual juicing needs.
To help you with your search, we turned to our experts for advice on the features to look for. After we compiled our list, we tested the best products. We rated each juicer based on ease of use, durability, performance, design, versatility, juice quality, ease of cleaning, and overall value. We followed the standard testing process for a month, which included setting up the juicer, testing a few recipes, and cleaning the machine. We then list eight of the best juicers on the market.
Why we love it: This juicer has performed consistently well in all recipes tested and produced one of the highest juice yields.
Nama cold pressed juicers consistently produce delicious, rich juices with virtually no foam or pulp. The juice we get from this juicer is thick and the juicer is of high quality. The flesh was also very dry, which indicated that the maximum possible amount of juice was squeezed out of the product. There is no pulp in the final product resulting in a delicious chewy texture.
Keep in mind that this product is in the higher price range of juicers on the market. If you don’t plan on making juice on a regular basis, you probably won’t appreciate the investment. We also noticed very little creaking and shaking during the process, though this didn’t seem to affect the final product.
The AmzChef Slow Chew Juicer produces high quality juice at an affordable price with minimal foam and dried fruit pulp. You’ll need to cut larger fruits or vegetables to fit in the chute, but there’s also a handy reverse feature to help clear any stuck food.
The juicer seemed a bit flimsy to us during assembly (we didn’t hear the nice clicks we often hear from high quality products), but the actual juicing process proved us wrong. The juicer is not only stable in operation, but also consistently delivers a quality product.
Juicers are relatively easy to clean, but they do need to be cleaned by hand. The filter works well, but it easily retains a lot of pulp, so be sure to wash it after every use.
In our testing, the Cuisinart Easy Clean Slow Juicer has been voted the best value for money, and with good reason. We love that this juicer has a large chute, which means less chopping and prep work. You can easily wash it by hand or put the parts in the dishwasher to make the cleaning process easier, and there is no strainer to speed up cleaning.
There was some pulp in the final product, but overall we liked the texture, taste and quality of the juice this machine produced. The easy-to-operate reversible turntable is ideal for clearing any product that might get stuck. If you’re looking for an easy-to-care juicer that can handle a variety of fruits and vegetables, this juicer is for you.
As the name suggests, we love the Hurom H101 Easy Clean Slow Juicer because it cleans the juicer very quickly. The juicer is equipped with a meshless filter that can be easily and quickly removed for cleaning without having to rub the device. Even though it can’t be washed in the dishwasher, we love how fast this juicer cleans.
Not only is cleanup quick, we’ve used this juicer to make carrot-orange and strawberry-pineapple juice in less than two minutes, which is the fastest brewing time of any juicer we’ve tested.
The final juice contains some pulp, and we don’t think a juice in this price range should have that much pulp. However, it seems that only certain types of food produce a thicker product. Especially our green juices had bits and pieces which resulted in an unpleasant taste. But if you plan on eating low-fiber vegetables, this may not be a problem.
We really like this powerful juicer for cooking and juicing. With 850W of power, you will be worth your money if you plan to use this juicer in large quantities. The juice seemed to separate faster than other Breville products we tested, and the juicer also produced slightly thinner juice. However, for the price, it seems to be more advantageous compared to other products.
The flesh seems to be a bit more moist than other products we have tested. However, this can be a compromise with having an efficient juicer that can handle large batches. While the product is easy to clean, it is difficult to dry as water tends to pool on the bottom. If you are making juice from your own juice, or in small batches all at once, this is not the best choice.
Why we love it: This compact computer is perfect for beginners or those looking for convenience.
Worth noting: You may need to keep an eye on the pulp basket, depending on how much juice you’re making.
This lightweight juicer is deservedly considered the best compact juicer. This not only saves space, but also makes delicious juices at an affordable price. It is compact and comes with a frozen dessert attachment, making it even more versatile. We think beginners or people who are just juicing will appreciate this option.
This juicer can be quickly assembled and reassembled, but it can only be washed by hand. However, we don’t think you’ll mind as the cleaning process is quick and easy. If you have been juicing for a long time or need to make large batches, this product may not be the best choice for you.
This high quality industrial grade juicer is versatile. We noticed that the juicer produced slightly less juice at the end of the testing process, but we liked the quality and texture. If you already have a lot of experience juicing at home, this machine can be the perfect tool to take you to the next level.
Apart from juice from fruits and vegetables, the juicer can also make nut butter, nut milk, frozen desserts, bread sticks and pasta. We love the many extra features that juicers offer. If you’re new to juicing or don’t plan on juicing very often, we can recommend other juicers on our list such as the Omega Cold Press 365 or the Dash Deluxe Compact Juicer.
This juicer is a great option for beginners looking for an inexpensive machine to get the job done. We love the ease of setup and the fact that the juicer is dishwasher safe. It doesn’t come with additional accessories, so if that’s an important feature, you might want to consider an option with more versatility like the Tribest Greenstar GSE-5000.
During testing, we encountered drops, which caused some confusion in the juicing process. The pulp is also slightly moist and does not completely dry out during the juicing process. But overall, the juicer produces a delicious end product, and the price is hard to beat.
To find the best juicer on the market, we interviewed the following health experts for their advice on what to expect from a juicer:
Based on their recommendations, we have compiled a list of the best juicers to test. We followed the standard testing process for one month. The testing process included setting up the juicer, testing several recipes (including carrot-orange, green, and strawberry-pineapple), cleaning the machine, taking notes, and comparing products.
The last eight products were judged on ease of use, durability, performance, design, versatility, juice quality, ease of cleaning and overall value.
Juices are great for you because they allow you to get more vitamins, minerals and plant compounds in your diet, says Manak. She recommends limiting daily intake to 4 ounces, as recommended by the American Dietary Guidelines. Drinking juice can also be more convenient than preparing fresh fruit.
There are two main types of home juicers on the market: centrifugal and chewing. Centrifugal juicers work by squeezing juice using blades rotating at high speed. Juicers grind fruits and vegetables and produce juice in the process.
On the other hand, chewing juicers slowly grind and squeeze fruits and vegetables to produce juice. Chun noted that chewing juicers operate at lower speeds, allowing them to efficiently produce a higher juice yield.
If you want to break down indigestible foods that are high in fiber or have a hard inner or outer layer, power will matter. For example, if you are planning to make juice from vegetables, nuts, or seeds, consider purchasing a more powerful machine. In general, higher power will also extend the life of your juicer.
The cleaning process is an important consideration when buying a new juicer. If the juicer is too difficult to clean, you are unlikely to use it all the time. The most convenient juicers can be washed in the dishwasher and do not have strainers that need to be wiped down after each use.
The simple assembly and reassembly process made cleaning easier during our testing, as fewer parts means less surface area to clean and a more efficient and user-friendly product.
We’ve covered juicers ranging from no extra features or gadgets to high-tech options with lots of extras. Here are some of the features you may find while shopping:
Prices for the products we tested range from $85 to $600. If you use your juicer frequently, juicing a lot, or need a lot of power to grind fibrous foods, you may be better off buying a more expensive juicer. If you are a beginner or just juicing for one person, you may want to consider a simpler model.
Both centrifugal and chewing juicers produce good quality juice. Centrifugal juicers are often cheaper and easier to use, Chun says. They also juice faster than chew juicers, which use a gentler pressing process. The advantage of a slower process is that the juice contains more nutrients, enzymes, and antioxidants, and may also have a longer shelf life.
Juicers that need to be washed by hand should be taken apart and washed thoroughly with mild soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. Juicers marked “Dishwasher Safe” are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning.
Drinking the juice in moderation is good for health, but Manak advises pregnant women or immunocompromised people to drink it with caution. If you fall into one of these groups, you should drink the juice right away, as freshly squeezed juice is not pasteurized and may contain bacteria. Manak also pointed out that children under one year old should not drink fruit juice.
People with medical conditions that affect blood sugar, such as diabetes, should also be careful not to drink too much juice, Chun notes. She recommends choosing vegetable juices that are low in fruit.
Chewable juicers typically retain more of the nutrients in the final product, Chun says. However, the nutrient content decreases rapidly over time, so drink freshly squeezed juice whenever possible.
