Review of Bruno and A4Box burners: which portable stove is better?

Sometimes I’m motivated enough to cook up a storm, but sometimes the fear of cleaning up is so strong that I don’t dare touch my pots and pans at all. I’ve always dreamed of a stove that won’t wash away grease like a medal, but I’ve been disappointed for a long time.
Then I came across a portable electric stove. These single-burner ranges are designed to prepare quick meals that require minimal cleanup and can be transported for use in small kitchens, hotels and rental properties. During the study, the function ga4_link114() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON.parse(‘{“event”:”default_event”}’)) }Bruno and the function ga4_link115() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON. parse ) ( ‘{“event”:”default_event”}’)) }The A4Box hobs caught my attention: their beautiful pastel colors and unique design allow you to convert them into the ga4_link116() function { window.dataLayer.push( JSON.parse (‘ {” event”:”click_inarticle”}’)) } Multicooker, function ga4_link117() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON.parse(‘{“event”:”click_inarticle”}’)) } internal grill and function ga4_link118() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON.parse(‘{“event”:”click_inarticle”}’)) } breakfast skillet, these are unlike anything I’ve seen before. The same.
Marketed as multifunctional electric ranges, the Bruno and A4Box consist of a heating base and uniquely mounted pots and pans. Bruno uses electrical heating from a tubular coil located at the bottom of the board. This compact electric cooker comes from Japan in a neatly packaged box and comes with a base, two non-stick pans (one for takoyaki, a Japanese snack, and one for grilling), a lid and a wooden spatula.
Since this product is intended for the Japanese market, it uses 110V instead of the standard US 120V. Therefore, you may need a transformer to change the voltage and use it safely internationally.
Once the correct voltage is connected, the user can securely attach any pan to the heating surface. Then simply turn on the heat and start cooking like you would on a home grill. There are four different temperature settings to choose from: keep warm, low, medium and high.
A4Box is similar to Bruno, but a little bigger. It also includes ga4_link119() { window.dataLayer.push(JSON.parse(‘{“event”:”click_inarticle”}’)) } an induction heating system designed to help food cook faster and more evenly. It has four temperature settings: low, medium, high and heat retention.
To start cooking, simply place the pan firmly on the induction surface, making sure that all corners are inside the outer part of the bottom (except the pan, which due to its depth is located on top of the bottom). To change pans while they are still hot, you can use the finger gloves included in the package. Thanks to the induction heating system, you don’t have to worry about the heating turning off when replacing.
To see how these hot plates stacked up, we fried scrambled eggs, pancakes, small grilled burgers, and sautéed asparagus on each burner and compared the results.
In the pancake test, the Bruno was able to hold four pancakes tightly, and the A4Box was able to hold six pancakes without feeling too stuck. Cooking the eggs over medium heat took six minutes on the Bruno stove, and about three minutes on the A4Box at a similar temperature.
In a bowl-shaped saucepan, we cooked several batches of takoyaki, a popular ball-shaped street food in Japan. The traditional recipe contains small pieces of octopus meat, but ham or eggs can also be used. Typically this special pan is made of cast iron with a hemispherical shape about the size of a meatball. The A4Box and Bruno pans contain 24 pans and are made from die-cast aluminum with a non-stick coating.
In our testing, we found that both burners took about the same amount of time to turn the takoyaki batter into a smooth, tasty bite of snack food, at just 20 minutes from start to finish. However, the Bruno has significantly more hot spots on the outer edges than the A4Box.
While their main selling point may be their compact size, these devices are also touted as a new interactive way to cook at the table, so we tested their hot pot cooking capabilities at a dinner party. In an Asian-style hot pot, guests add fresh ingredients to the broth until fully cooked.
We found that the Bruno Soup Bowl isn’t deep or wide enough to accommodate a group of more than three people, while the A4Box Soup Bowl can comfortably fit five or six people around the pot. Thanks to induction heating technology, the A4Box can boil three liters of broth in just three minutes, while the Bruno takes longer. With the heat set to medium, both Bruno and A4Box were able to keep the broth simmering. The maximum temperature both devices can reach is 482°F.
These two cookers can be used not only for frying and roasting, but also for roasting, slow cooking and sautéing.
The only accessory that comes with the Bruno electric stove is a wooden spatula, which is also described as a tool to help users change pots and pans while cooking. However, I found this tool to be of little use as I still needed oven mitts to safely change pans while they were hot.
Unlike Bruno, A4Box has a variety of tools designed to give beginners a head start with this type of kitchen equipment, including a pair of silicone finger gloves, a teaspoon, a tablespoon, and a silicone spatula. With these tools, I can take the box anywhere and start cooking right away.
The Bruno compact electric range comes with two pans and costs $125. You can also buy additional baking sheets separately, such as a ceramic lined casserole dish for $50 and a ridged baking sheet for $35.
Bruno also offers a complete set, including a base and five pans, for $295. The set includes a saucepan, a roasting pan and a baking sheet. In addition to the cost of the electric stove itself, you may also need to consider the cost of the transformer to use it in the United States, which averages around $100.
The A4Box is more expensive than the Bruno, starting at $249, but is compatible with standard US power supplies. Like Bruno, you can purchase additional pans on their website, but only in the form of a three-pan combo set that costs $89. The set includes a takoyaki skillet, a ceramic-coated casserole dish, and a six-pan grill pan for poaching eggs, making pancakes, and steaming buns.
While I love the unique and attractive look of the Bruno, the A4Box suits my needs better due to its larger cooking surface, useful accessories, and fast heating system. Unlike many portable induction burners, the A4Box does not require the purchase of additional compatible pots and pans.
I also appreciate that the A4Box comes with two non-stick baking pans, which I find more useful than the Octopus Bruno Grill Plates Set. Don’t get me wrong, I love making takoyaki and watching the dough form into a ball. But do I love them enough to cook them every day, let alone when traveling? When it comes to everyday instant meals, I like to have two pans that can be used interchangeably.
When it comes to cleaning, the A4Box is a better choice as the flat induction surface is easy to wipe clean while the Bruno coil power system opens up once the pan is removed. When sauce or soup overflows the pan, food easily gets stuck in the heated part. I haven’t had a spill yet, but I can imagine that cleaning up the grease would be a pain since I would have to reach deep into the car.
If you’re a recent graduate starting a chapter of your life in a small kitchen, or someone who loves to entertain, a portable stove like the A4Box may be right for you. They are also great for travelers, campers and glamping campers who still have a source of energy. College students who don’t have access to a full kitchen can use these stoves to quickly prepare meals without creating a mess, if dorm rules allow.
No matter the situation, these portable electric stoves are a great addition to your kitchen. Looking for more multitasking gadgets?
